Gaelle creates art for the garden.

Taking art outdoors was the driving force behind joining Kate Brown and Mark Feigham in the Great Garden Challenge at the Blenheim Palace. This has been a superb venue for displaying my work, and it is this challenge has given me the opportunity to show my artwork outdoors for the first time.
After weeks of designing the garden, sourcing materials and planning the construction for the show, Kate and Mark have teamed together to create a stunning garden. A combination of aluminium and stone creates a contemporary backdrop to a formal design. A sunflower stone motif takes pride of place as a centre piece. The planting softens the whole garden by combining plants of varying height creating an easy to maintain garden.

I was invited to create the artwork for their design and after deciding that the image needed to be striking, very textured, but also of an abstract subject, two glass panels containing my photographic artwork were placed in each corner to the rear of the design. These panels are slowly revealed when entering the stone centre of the garden and the triptychs of deep purple and turquoise work so well against the aluminium panels.
This effect is accentuated by changes in the weather, the sun picking out the texture of the brushed aluminium panels, and the stones changing colour as the rains falls, but the vibrant artwork remains and the transparency of the glass plays on reflections of light between the metal layers.
Today a great team and a great design have won a place in the quarter finals of The Great Garden Challenge. Now the team has to design another garden and as for Gaelle, I have enjoyed joining Kate and Mark on this challenge and this has been an exciting design experience whilst creating a beautiful showcase of my work in a garden setting.
The glass panels are available in a number of different forms ranging from pure artwork, to water features, and sound sources. The photographic element can be tailored to your individual requirements and is available on commission.

Leading to the Grand Final
Following the contemporary ‘Steel and Stone’ garden of the first round, Kate and Mark’ created ‘Daisy Chain’ for the quarter finals. Experimenting with metal chain as a decorative trellis, they also included areas of lawn and gravel with wild daisies. For the semi-final Kate and Mark built ‘Midsummer Paradise’, a traditional English cottage garden complete with paved path and lavender hedge.
In the final garden, Kate and Mark created ‘Journey’s End’. Using new and reclaimed landscaping materials the garden featured a large gravel courtyard, and terracotta olive jars inspired by Tuscany.
Kate and Mark came third in the competition. Their hard work, skills and resilience has proved to be a successful combination.
